IDEAL J *-ALGEBRAS
A C *-algebra A is called an ideal C * -algebra (or equally a dual algebra) if it is an ideal in its bidual A**. M.C.F. Berglund proved that subalgebras and quotients of ideal C*-algebras are also ideal C*-algebras, that a commutative C *-algebra A is an ideal C *-algebra if and only if it is isomorphicto C (Q) for some discrete space ?. We investigate ideal J*-algebras and show that the a...
متن کاملConvolution Measure Algebras with Group Maximal Ideal Spaceso
Let G denote a locally compact abelian topological group (an l.c.a. group) with dual group C\ We will denote by A7(G) the Banach algebra of bounded regular Borel measures on G under convolution multiplication and by L(G) the algebra of bounded measures absolutely continuous with respect to Haar measure on G (for discussions of these Banach algebras cf. [1], [2], and [5]). In this paper we shall...
متن کاملTraces, Ultrapowers and the Pedersen-petersen C*-algebras
Our motivating question was whether all traces on a U-ultrapower of a C*-algebra A, where U is a non-principal ultrafilter on N, are necessarily U-limits of traces on A. We show that this is false so long as A has infinitely many extremal traces, and even exhibit a 22 א0 size family of such traces on the ultrapower. For this to fail even when A has finitely many traces implies that A contains o...
متن کاملThe Topology on the Primitive Ideal Space of Transformation Group C # - Algebras and C.C.R. Transformation Group C # -Algebras
If (G, 8) is a second countable transformation group and the stability groups are amenable then C*(G, 8) is C.C.R. if and only if the orbits are closed and the stability groups are C.C.R. In addition, partial results relating closed orbits to C.C.R. algebras are obtained in the nonseparable case. In several cases, the topology of the primitive ideal space is calculated explicitly. In particular...
متن کاملIdeal Amenability of Banach Algebras and Some Hereditary Properties
Let A be a Banach algebra. A is called ideally amenable if for every closed ideal I of A, the first cohomology group of A with coefficients in I* is trivial. We investigate the closed ideals I for which H1 (A,I* )={0}, whenever A is weakly amenable or a biflat Banach algebra. Also we give some hereditary properties of ideal amenability.
